* TELEHEALTH NOW AVAILABLE

We are excited to announce that as of today we will be providing Telehealth Visits in addition to our in-office appointments. This addition will allow us to provide quality care, when appropriate, to our patients in the comfort of their home. As your pediatric medical home, we will determine whether your child's symptoms would be best evaluated and managed in the ER, at the office, or at home via Telehealth.

With Telehealth, you can have a real-time video visit with one of our providers using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Telehealth is currently available by appointment only. However, during the pandemic, in effort to avoid sending you to the ER, after a discussion with the triage nurse, if the provider deems it appropriate we may offer an after-hours appointment for medical advice and treatment on nights and weekends from 10am to 10pm. You will continue to contact our After-Hours Line first, and the SLCH nurses will triage you as they always have. Should they feel it necessary to contact the pediatrician, the need for a telehealth visit will be determined at that time. In order to allow our providers to spend time with their families, we ask that you make every effort to keep these appointments during office hours. All behavioral health visits will be done during office hours.

Check your plan benefits to see what your costs will be for Telehealth services. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, most health plans are covering this service. If not, we have set an affordable price that will still allow you to benefit from this service and when able, avoid the ER or coming into the office. Our goal at this time is to keep as many kids out of the ER and urgent care as possible.

We hope you find this convenient and useful. With Telehealth, we are striving to fulfill our ongoing commitment to putting our families first and delivering new ways to make high-quality care, from the providers that know your child best, affordable and accessible during this crisis.

Telehealth represents another way we deliver highly personalized care that supports your child's health while protecting you and your family from any unnecessary exposure during the current pandemic.

Please call our office to schedule an appointment.

* UPDATE ON COVID-19

April 17, 2020

Happy Friday everyone. We hope you are all enjoying your extra family time and staying healthy. We remain open and available for any of you that need us. We continue to see well child check ups in the morning only (no sick visits) and have been busy with telemedicine video visits in the afternoon, along with the occasional in office sick visit. We have been able to see many kiddos with allergy problems, colds, rashes, urinary difficulties, asthma maintenance visits, mental health and wellness visits all from the comfort of your couch! It is our version of 21st century home visits! Call and schedule and appointment if we can help. If you are coming into the office and have a mask to wear, please do so.

We want to continue to encourage you to make the most of this time. It is not often that we are forced to hit the ‘pause' button on our busy American lifestyle. We hope you will spend some time with your children enjoying and exploring nature, engaging in free play and art projects, and getting in some good snuggle time! Please let us know if we can be of service, or if your kids are having any difficulty during all the transition. Enjoy your weekend!"

Update Mar 20, 2020

Dear Families,

We are now experiencing community spread of COVID-19 in the St. Louis Area. What this means, is that we now know there are people getting it from an unknown interaction in the community as opposed to only those having traveled to a high-risk area or with close contact to a person known to be infected.
Therefore, we must take additional precautions to protect those at highest risk of severe infection and continue to help slow the spread of the virus. With that, as of today we have closed our lobby in effort to help our families maintain a healthy social distance. Instead, over the next few weeks, the following procedures will be instituted:
  • We will give you a specific dedicated phone number to call from your car to check-in for your appointment when you arrive in the parking lot. The receptionist will check you in over the phone, so the back office knows you are here and ready.
  • When it is time for you to come back for your appointment, the MA will call you and bring you directly back to your room.
  • We will be using separate entrances for sick and well patients. We will let you know where to meet your MA when we call to bring you back to a room.
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to recommend that children receive age-appropriate immunizations to protect them and avoid a future epidemic secondary to under-vaccination. With the above measures in place, we will be able to continue to see our well checks and provided needed immunizations, growth, and developmental assessments, and to care for the other non-respiratory needs of our patients without increasing their risk of exposure.
  • We will also be closing on Saturdays for the duration of the summer. We do not have the staffing to properly screen and protect our patients, families and staff on the weekends.
As we shift to a time in which caring for patients' needs from home becomes more essential, please know that we will do careful assessments via phone as to whether it is appropriate to provide home care advice or if your child needs to be seen either at the office or in the ED. This is something we do every day in pediatrics, but for now our effort to keep as many kids with respiratory symptoms at home as possible will be the priority. We will continue to provide excellent home care advice to assist you caring for your children. In addition to nurse Beth, we will have Denise, Lisa, Angie, and even our providers available over the phone when they are not seeing patients. We are working on a TeleHealth option as well. Insurance companies are stepping up to cover both telephone and Telehealth Video visits to allow us to provide care for you from the comfort of your home when appropriate. We will not sacrifice exceptional, personal, evidence-based medical care.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during these very difficult and trying times. I think for both medical providers and families, it is important now more than ever to be flexible and work together. Our goal is to continue to provide excellent and personal care to your family, while also keeping our staff and office healthy and prepared for the long term goal of resuming ‘normal' operation once the peak of this pandemic has passed in our area.

Stay Well,

Dr. Young, Dr. Satterly, Dr. Lorts, Alison, and the Staff of Young Pediatrics
